COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The No. 20 Texas A&M Aggies began the 2017 season with an overwhelming 15-1 victory over the Bowling Green Falcons Friday on Blue Bell Park at Olsen Field.
The Maroon and White controlled the game offensively with 15 runs on 15 hits, 10 walks and three hit batsmen. In his collegiate debut, freshman Braden Shewmake batted 3-for-5 with one double, two runs and four RBI.
The 12th Man was in full force for opening day as the Maroon and White played in front of a record breaking crowd with an attendance of 7,209. With the victory, Texas A&M moved to 11-1 in season openers under head coach Rob Childress.

TEXAS A&M QUOTES
HEAD COACH ROB CHILDRESS
On the team's performance…
"Nick Choruby started the game off in the bottom of the first and allowed us to score and breathe a little bit. Brigham [Hill] had a great start. I thought Hunter Coleman caught him really well, blocked a lot of tough changeups in the dirt and did a great job for a freshman. All in all, we were very offensive and we played great defense. We played eight freshmen tonight which says a lot about those guys. They were ready to play and did a nice job."
On Brigham Hill's changeup…
"Well, that's his pitch and I thought he was fantastic tonight. Kaylor Chafin came behind him and did a nice job and got Jason Ruffcorn in the game, he's got a nice arm, so that's what you need out of your Friday guy. Brigham gave us a great start."
SENIOR OF NICK CHORUBY
On if him and Austin getting hits at the start calmed the younger guys…
"Yeah maybe, I think so. Everyone has a little butterflies coming out here but you've got to embrace them and go do you so it's always good to get the game started like that."
On if he still has the butterflies…
"No, not anymore. [Laughs] I'm shivering though because it's cold out here!"
JUNIOR RHP BRIGHAM HILL
On his outing and how he felt tonight…
"I felt great; I mean it's always nice to get the first one out of the way. Defense was incredible tonight. Hunter Coleman did a great job. Overall, it just felt great."
On his 10 strikeouts and how many were because of his changeup…
"I think it was all ten that were strikeouts [laughs] but yeah, it felt great. I wish I would've had better fast ball command but it felt like a great night."
FRESHMAN 2B BRADEN SHEWMAKE
On his debut…
"It was awesome. The fans, my teammates, the coaches were incredible. I couldn't ask for a better experience. I'm exactly where I want to be."
On the RBI double…
"I have to credit that to my teammates. When I got up to the plate they were all over the basepaths. They put me in a good position. It makes my job easy knowing that they have my back."
