
Aggies Begin SEC Tournament Run Against Alabama Thursday

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The fourth-seeded Texas A&M softball team will take on fifth-seeded Alabama at the SEC Tournament Thursday at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium.
First pitch is slated for 11:03 (CT) a.m. and can be seen on the SEC Network with Adam Amin, Amanda Scarborough and Laura Rutledge on the call.
Texas A&M enters the SEC Tournament with a 42-9 (16-7 SEC) record. Riley Sartain leads the team with a .364 average and 41 RBI, while Tori Vidales paces the Aggies with 14 home runs and is second on the team with 40 RBI. The Aggies a 1.85 team ERA, led by Trinity Harrington (13-2, 1.60) and Samantha Show (17-6, 1.89 ERA). Lexi Smith claims an 11-1 record and a 1.65 ERA.
Last weekend, the Aggies took game one of the series against No. 9 Tennessee, but fell in Saturday and Sunday's contests. Erica Russell led the team with a .500 (4-for-8) average with a double and two RBI. Vidales belted four home runs, three in Sunday's game, drove in eight and set a career high with six RBI in the rubber match. In the circle, Harrington tossed a six-hit complete game on Friday with two strikeouts for her 13th win of the season.
Alabama enters Thursday's contest with a 41-15 (12-11 SEC) record, defeating Arkansas, 4-1, in the tournament's opening round. The Crimson Tide are led offensively by Demi Turner, who is batting .387, and Peyton Grantham, who tops the team in doubles (9), home runs (7) and RBI (39). In the circle, Sydney Littlejohn is 14-7 with a 1.23 ERA, and Alexis Osorio is 20-7 with a 1.34 ERA and 287 strikeouts in 167.1 innings.
Texas A&M and Alabama have met 13 times in school history with the Crimson Tide holding a 10-3 advantage. Last season, Alabama took two of three games against the Aggies in College Station. Texas A&M won the series' final game, 14-1. The two teams met in the 2013 SEC Tournament in Lexington, Ky., in which Alabama won 10-9.
The winner of Thursday's contest will face off against the winner of the Florida-Mississippi State/Ole Miss game on Friday at 2 p.m. (CT) on ESPNU.
