Men’s Golf Set to Tee Off at NCAA Sammamish Regional
May 14, 2017 | Men's Golf
SAMMAMISH, Wash. — Following a Sunday practice round at Aldarra Golf Club, the Texas A&M men's golf team is set to begin competition at the NCAA Sammamish Regional on Monday morning.
The three-day tournament will consist of 54 holes of stroke play, with 18 holes each day beginning at 10 a.m. (CT) The top five teams in the regional advance to the NCAA Championship, scheduled for May 26-31 at Rich Harvest Farms Sugar Grove, Ill. Additionally, the highest-placing individual who is not a member of an advancing team will also earn a trip to Illinois.
Aldarra Golf Club, which is located just minutes east of Seattle and is built on the original site of the Boeing family farm, will play at 6,885-yard, par-71 for the regional.
"We feel really good [heading into regionals]," Texas A&M head coach J.T. Higgins said. "After we lost at LSU it really woke the guys up and made them realize some flaws, not just physically but in our routine. They really showed up at the SEC Championship; were really focused and determined. If we play that way at regionals, we're a tough squad to beat. We're excited for the opportunity."
Southern California is the top seed among the 14-team regional field in Sammamish, followed by Kent State, Texas A&M, Florida State, Washington, Alabama, San Diego State, UTEP, Penn State, Michigan, Michigan State, Seattle, Marquette and Bryant. Nine teams in the field are ranked in the Golfstat top 50.
The Aggies who will be playing in their 14th NCAA Tournament in the past 15 seasons as well as their 43rd overall showing in the NCAA field, will be paired alongside USC and Kent State during Monday's opening round.
Representing the Aggies at the event will be Chandler Phillips, Cameron Champ, Dan Erickson, Andrew Paysse and Brandon Smith.
Five other sites will host regionals, including the College Grove Regional (The Grove, Murfreesboro, Tenn.), West Lafayette Regional (Kampen Course, West Lafayette, Ind.), Stanford Regional (Stanford Golf Course, Stanford, Calif.), Austin Regional (University of Texas Golf Club, Austin, Texas), Baton Rouge Regional (The University Club, Baton Rouge, La.).
