COLLEGE STATION, Texas — The 2017 Texas A&M volleyball recruiting class is ranked 18th in the nation, PrepVolleyball.com has announced
The Aggies' complete all-freshmen-to-be recruiting class is as follows:
All four signees are mentioned in PrepVolleyball.com's top 250 list of the Class of 2017 Senior Aces, including three who are in the top 100.
"All four bring in top-level club experience, and they have been on teams that have been very successful both at the high school and club level," said Laurie Corbelli, who is entering her 25th season as head coach of the Aggies. "They are so well trained, experienced and skilled at their individual positions and what they are being brought in to do. Whether it is middle blocking, outside hitting or setting, likely they'll all be able to contribute very early in their careers at their positions."
Middle blockers Morgan Davis and Makena Patterson, the Arizona Big Schools Girls Volleyball Athlete of the Year, both were named VolleyballMag.com Girls High School All-Americans following the 2016 season, and Samantha Sanders, a 6-2 outside hitter, was named to the all-tournament team at the 2017 USA Volleyball Girls' Junior National Championships after leading Texas Advantage 18 Black to a runner-up finish in the Open Division. Lefty Camille Connor, a four-year starting setter at Seven Lakes High School and Senior Ace No. 94, is considered the likely candidate to take over the Aggies' starting setting duties following the retirement of three-time AVCA All-American honorable mention Stephanie Aiple, who had one year of eligibility remaining.
In addition to Aiple, Corbelli loses four-year back-up setter Kaysie Shebeneck and Texas A&M all-time career blocks leader and 2015 AVCA All-American middle blocker Jazzmin Babers, who started every match in her four-year, as well as outside hitter Emily Hardesty and defensive specialists Victoria Arenas and Katelyn Labhart from last year's team that went 21-9 and advanced to the NCAA Championship tournament for a sixth consecutive year.
The 2017 team reports to campus August 7 and begins official preseason training on August 8.
