Men’s Golf Returns to the Links at OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational
Sep 14, 2017 | Men's Golf
OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. – After opening its fall schedule last weekend with a victory, the Texas A&M men's golf team returns to action on Friday when the Aggies begin play at OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational.
"The guys are really excited to tee it up again after winning earlier this week," Texas A&M head coach J.T. Higgins said. "This is a tournament we build our schedule around. Olympia Fields is a US Open course and this is as good a field as we will see all year. Let's see if we can keep it rolling."
The event, which tees off Friday morning, will feature 54 holes over three days on Olympia Fields Country Club, which has hosted four major championships and will be set up to play at par 70 and 7,107 yards.
Texas A&M has participated in the Invitational each of the last three seasons with their best showing coming last season with a third-place finish. The Aggies enter a loaded field that features 10 squads ranked in the Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll. Joining the A&M in the field is event host and defending champ Illinois, along with Alabama, Baylor, California, Florida State, Indiana, Navy, North Carolina, Northwestern, Oklahoma State, Stanford, Texas, UNLV and USC.
Senior Cameron Champ is set to make his return to the A&M lineup in Illinois. The All-American, who missed last weekend's opening event while competing at the Walker Cup, is the reigning OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational medalist after capturing a four-stroke win last fall. Junior Chandler Phillips, coming off a victory in last weekend's Badger Invite, joins Champ to give the Aggies a pair of All-Americans in the field. Additionally, senior Andrew Paysse and sophomore Brandon Smith will represent the Aggies, after both golfers finished in the top-13 in last weekend's 102-player field. Rounding out the Aggie lineup is freshman Reese Ramsey who took home a share of sixth place during his first collegiate event at the Badger Invite.
Tee time for the 16th-ranked Aggies is set for 9:30 a.m. (CT) Friday morning where they are paired alongside golfers from USC and top-ranked Oklahoma State. Live scoring and results for the Aggies can be found on golfstat.com as well as live updates via twitter at @AggieMensGolf.
