FRESNO, Calif. -- The No. 1 Texas A&M equestrian team defeated No. 9 Fresno State, 14-5, Friday in the season opener at the Student Horse Center.
"Our Hunt Seat team came out with a bang, so overall I am just really happy with how the girls rode. We had a short amount of practice time and to try and work out all the kinks. We rode a good set of horses that a lot of we hadn't seen before. I thought they were really smart and rode really well," head coach Tana McKay said. "The biggest thing was just having a short amount of practice time and getting back into the swing of things. It is a great test for us to be able to put the pressure on for two solid meets in a short amount of time. I like to see how they handle that pressure. It also gives us an opportunity to see a few more people in the competition setting."
The Aggies started out with a strong, 5-0 lead after sweeping Equitation over Fences. Junior Rebekah Chenelle scored the first point of the meet with an 80-79 victory over Kylina Chalack. Senior Rachael Hake followed with an 84-77 win against Sierra Swaffar, followed by senior Kai DeVogaler topping Paige Pastorino, 78-72. Senior Alex Desiderio outscored Natalie Wendt, 85-65, before freshman Caroline Dance had a dominant, 86-76 win over Alex Dirickson in her first collegiate ride. Hake was named MOP for the meet.

Earning the next point for the Aggies was sophomore Ashley Davidson who earned a 74.5 to down Julia Kelly's 73. Sophomore Kyra Bouma narrowly defeated Rachel Williams, 77-75, before junior Sarah Orsak scored the final point with a 76-71 win over Taylor Dixon.
Heading into Equitation on Flat, the Aggies led 9-1 and extended their lead to 13-2. Redshirt sophomore Brianna Peddicord tallied the first point for the Aggies after defeating Pastorino, 79-67.
