No. 3 Texas A&M Suffers 11-8 Loss to No. 9 Georgia in Fall Finale
Nov 16, 2018 | Equestrian
COLLEGE STATION – The No. 3 Texas A&M equestrian team dropped a narrow 11-8 decision to No. 9 Georgia Friday at the Hildebrand Equine Complex.
"It's not the outcome we wanted as we certainly made our mistakes today," head coach Tana McKay said. "You can't do that against a team like Georgia, who had something to prove. We opened the door for them, and you can't do that. The two-month break is good as we get to regroup, but we have work to do. Hopefully they take it upon themselves to do some homework over the break."
In the day's first event, Equitation over Fences, Rebekah Chenelle secured the lone point for the Aggies, topping Emma Mandarino, 78-72.
In Horsemanship, Texas A&M (4-2, 1-2 SEC) swept the Bulldogs (2-3, 1-1 SEC), 4-0. Kyra Bouma edged out Madison Anger, 76.5-75, before Katie Conklin defeated Lila Owens, 74-70.5. Sarah Orsak knocked off Lexie Lane, 78-73, to earn Most Outstanding Player (MOP) honors as Alex Albright closed out the event with a 76.5-76 triumph against Taylor Burgess. Ashley Davidson and Graysen Stroud tied at 78.
Orsak and Davidson's score of 78 is the highest this season by an Aggie and ties for the seventh-highest score in Horsemanship in program history.
Caroline Dance was named MOP after leading off Equitation on the Flat with an 82-81 victory over Madison Newman. Caroline Boyle wrapped up the event with a 78, besting Grace Bridges' 73.
Kalee McCann recorded the only point for Texas A&M in Reining, defeating Julia Spreng, 72-71.
The Aggies return to action January 26 at South Dakota State at 8 a.m.
