COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The No. 6 Texas A&M Aggies lost an 18-inning decision to the UT Arlington Mavericks, 5-1, in the longest game in school annals in terms of innings.

Six Aggie pitchers combined to keep the Mavericks off the scoreboard for the first 17 frames. The most notable being relievers Cason Sherrod and Asa Lacy. Sherrod worked 5.2 innings, scattering five hits and one walk while striking out three. Lacy pitched 4.2 innings, yielding two hits and one walk while striking out five. Starter Chandler Jozwiak worked 4.0 innings, giving up two hits and one walk while striking out five.

Michael Helman, Chris Andritsos and Logan Foster each logged two hits for the Aggies and A&M drew 11 walks, but they were ultimately doomed by 19 runners left on base and two errors committed in the 18^th inning.

The Aggies previously played a pair of 16 inning games, one against TCU in 2015 and one against Arkansas in 1989.

SCORING SUMMARY

T18 | R.J. Williams started the inning with a gapper to left-center for a single. Kyle Richardson spelled Jason Ruffcorn (0-1) on the mound and induced a fly ball to rightfield which was misplayed by Baine Schoenvogel, resulting in a three-base error and sending Williams home with the game's first run. Zac Cook singled to right to knock in Vaughan and knock Richardson out of the contest. After Dustin Saenz took the mound, Cook stole second and scored on a single up the middle by Omar Salinas. Saenz walked Aaron Funk and Mason Cole walked Will Olson to load the bases. Josh Minjarez hit a ground ball to Chris Andritsos at first base, but Andritsos throw home sailed left of the catcher, allowing two runs to score. Cole ended the frame with two pop ups and a groundout. UTA 5, A&M 0.

B18 | Chandler Morris drew a pinch-hit walk. After Cole Taylor struck out and George Janca popped up to second base, Zach DeLoach singled to center to put runners on the corners. DeLoach took second on defensive indifference and a balk pushed across the Aggies' lone run of the game. A groundout by Helman ended the game. UTA 5, A&M 1.

"Give UTA all the credit. They managed the game incredibly well. They pitched at a very high level. They didn't make any mistakes defensively. They took advantage of some mistakes that we made in the 18^th inning. It was a great game if you're a baseball fan but for us, we have to be much better offensively. We only had one opportunity in the 13^th inning to score but we were unable to get the big two-out hit. We're a much better offense than that. We need to be able to be a great offense not just with the wind going out but when the wind is blowing in. We have to be able to get bunts down, hit and run and do other things. For 17 innings we were outstanding on the mound. There were a lot of heroes on the mound. We were amazing defensively. We made a lot of wonderful plays. We weren't able to get a big hit for the first 17 innings."
