AGGIE NOTES:
WHAT THEY SAID
Texas A&M Head Coach Jo Evans
On the game overall…
"I thought UConn played great. They came out swinging. They got a big home run in the first inning to kind of make a statement and say we are here to play. I thought we did a good job to answer back with a run in the second inning. They did a good job to set the table and keep getting hacks. They did what a lot of pitchers haven't done against us and shut us down. There were plays that we had to make and plays we were used to seeing us make. UConn deserved to win. We flat out got outplayed. There's no excuse for that. My kids know how to play the game. We just couldn't get it to go. Offensively we were bad, and they were good. Their pitcher did a good job of throwing the changeup for strikes and got us off balance. We didn't do a good job at the plate."
On Ashley Walters and Kristen Cuyos offensively…
"We needed that from Ashley. She was feeling frustrated even though she still had a decent average. If you look over the last couple of games, she hadn't hit the ball well. It is nice to see her get out there and get a couple of hits. The one Kristen hit in the second inning was just such a nice swing. She got her hands inside and went right up the middle of the field. I thought that was a beautiful swing. Then she gets herself on base at the end to give ourselves a chance. She is doing some good things, and I can see her getting more comfortable."
On Samantha Show…
"You need somebody who is going to come in and keep the game close for you, and she did that. We shouldn't be playing a game where we have to be absolutely perfect to win. We have to be better than that. Sam did come in and do a good job. We don't expect anyone to be perfect, but you have to give us a chance."
