Men's Golf Heads to Florida for Valspar Collegiate Invitational

PALM CITY, Fla. – The second-ranked Texas A&M men's golf team hits the road for the final time during the regular season as it travels to Florida for the Valspar Collegiate at the Floridian National Golf Club to take place March 18-20.
TOURNAMENT / COURSE INFO
The Valspar Collegiate tees off with a shotgun start on Sunday followed by 18 holes on Monday and Tuesday. The Floridian National Golf Club hosts the event on the par 71, 7,114 yard course. The Tom Fazio-designed course is located on the St. Lucie River in the Treasure Coast region, a mile away from the ocean. In their trip to the Valspar last season, the Aggies finished in sixth among the 14-team field with Andrew Paysse leading the team with a 12th place finish.
THE FIELD
Joining the No. 2 (Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings) Aggies in the 16-team tournament are top-ranked Oklahoma State and a total of 10 top-25 teams. Along with hosts Houston, the field includes Arkansas (18), Baylor (11), Duke (33), Florida State (24), Georgia Tech (4), Lamar, LSU (12), Pepperdine (21), South Carolina (38), South Florida (26), Texas (14), UT-Arlington and Wake Forest (23).
TEXAS A&M PREVIEW
On the season, Texas A&M has won a team-record five events and have placed either on top or in second in seven of their eight events. Last time out, The Aggies brought home a second-place finish at The General Hackler Championship. Dan Erickson led the team with a sixth-place finish after winning the Louisiana Classics in the previous event. Sophomore Brandon Smith finished in a tied for seventh, his best career showing earning him a spot in the lineup in Florida.
Along with Smith and Erickson, the Aggie five-man lineup includes All-American Chandler Phillps, who sits one trophy away from breaking the Aggie record for career tournament titles, senior Andrew Paysse and sophomore Josh Gliege. Additionally, freshman Walker Lee and sophomore Reese Ramsey will compete as individuals.
