Aggies Open SEC Tournament Play Tuesday vs. Vanderbilt
May 19, 2018 | Baseball
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas A&M Aggies enter the 2018 SEC Baseball Tournament (May 22-27) in Hoover, Alabama as the No. 11 seed, drawing Vanderbilt as their first round opponent. The Aggies are looking for their second SEC Tournament title to go along with their 2016 crown.
Texas A&M and Vanderbilt play in the first game slated for Tuesday's action at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium. The game is scheduled for 9:30 a.m.
Tuesday's action is an elimination round with the winners advancing to a double-elimination portion that begins Wednesday. The winner of the Texas A&M-Vanderbilt contest faces No. 3-seed Georgia in Wednesday's first game.
The Aggies and Commodores did not meet during the 2018 regular-season. The teams have played six times at the SEC Tournament, including two times each in 2013, '15 and '16. They split the two games all three occasions. Vanderbilt eliminated Texas A&M from the tournament in 2013 and 2015 and the Aggies returned the favor in 2016 on their way to the tournament crown.
Texas A&M has made it to the SEC Tournament in all six of its seasons in the league. Last season, the Aggies were the No. 7 seed. Texas A&M entered the SEC Tournament as the No. 3 seed in both 2015 and 2016. The Aggies were seeded No. 9 in 2013 and No. 10 in 2014.
The Aggies are 1-2 in SEC Tournament first round games. In 2013, the Maroon and White toppled Florida, 6-3, behind a complete-game effort by Daniel Mengden and four RBI by Hunter Melton. In 2014, Texas A&M lost a 4-0 decision against Arkansas. Last year the Maroon & White suffered a 12-7 loss at the hands of Missouri.
All of the games will be televised nationally. The championship game will air on ESPNU at 3:30 pm on Sunday, May 27. All other games will be televised on SEC Network.
