Aaliyah Brown fifth in 100m, Jessica Beard advances to 400m final at US Championships
Jun 22, 2018 | Track and Field
DES MOINES, Iowa – Aggie alum Aaliyah Brown reached the 100m final at the USATF Championships, placing fifth with a time of 11.13 (0.6 wind) at Drake Stadium during second day action on Friday.
Brown, who also finished fifth in last year's meet, reached the final by placing third in her semifinal heat with a time of 11.15 (1.5 wind).
"I definitely felt very confident coming into the USA Championships this year, same as last year," said Brown. "I didn't have as many races coming into this meet during my first professional year. So, it was definitely good for me to lower my times and run a season best of 11.13 in the final.
"Going into next year I know the things I need to work on. I'm happy with the outcome, and there are still Diamond League meets and the rest of the summer to go through. The 200 will be next, I just want to get some more races on my legs."
Another Texas A&M alum advancing to a final was Jessica Beard in the 400m. Beard cruised to a 50.65 victory in the second semifinal over Courtney Okolo (50.80). Shakima Wimbley won the other semifinal in 50.57, the top qualifying time overall. The final will be contested on Saturday.
Infinite Tucker raced in lane one of the 400m hurdles semifinal. After hitting the second hurdle, Tucker posted a time of 51.34 to place seventh in his heat. The top four finishers in each semifinal advanced to the final.
Khallifah Rosser won the heat Tucker raced in with a time of 49.12 while the other semifinal was claimed by TJ Holmes in 49.00.
The women's 400m hurdles skipped the first round prelim and went to semifinals, so Shamier Little's first race this weekend will be on Saturday.
Also competing on Saturday are Shaina Burns and Annie Kunz in the heptathlon, as well as Jacob Wooten and Audie Wyatt in the pole vault. Racing in the first round of the 200m are Ameer Webb in the men's field along with Brown, Ashton Purvis and Jeneba Tarmoh in the women's field.
