COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Current and former Texas A&M Aggies are enjoying All-Star summers in baseball leagues across the nation.
Ross Stripling headlined the list of midsummer standouts by playing in his first career MLB All-Star Game on July 17 in Washington D.C. Stripling worked 1.2 innings for the National League in their 8-6 loss.
The Aggies had three former standouts selected for Double-A all-star games, including Matt Kent, Corbin Martin and Michael Barash.
Kent was selected to play for the Eastern Division at Eastern League All-Star Game where he was a teammate of Tim Tebow. Kent pitched a scoreless second inning at the game, retiring all three batters he faced, including one strikeout. He is 6-7 with a 3.44 ERA and 89 strikeouts in 99.1 innings with the Portland Sea Dogs. He also pitched in one game in Triple A with the Pawtucket Red Sox.
Martin pitched a scoreless fourth inning for the South Division at the Texas League All-Star Game. Martin is having a stellar season with the Corpus Christi Hooks, posting a 6-1 record with a 2.65 ERA and 58 strikeouts in 68.0 innings.
Barash earned a spot on the South Division squad for the Southern Division All-Star Game. Barash was promoted to Triple-A Salt Lake City prior the game and was unable to participate. He has since announced his retirement from baseball to pursue a coaching career.
Texas A&M had two players named to Single A all-star game rosters, including Nick Banks and Ryan Hendrix.
Banks played for the North Division at the South Atlantic League All-Star Game, getting one at-bat in a loss. On the year, he is hitting .269 with 41 runs, 13 doubles, two triples, eight home runs and 44 RBI in 89 games in time split between the Hagerstown Suns and the Potomac Nationals.
