COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The No. 8 Texas A&M Aggies look to start 5-0-0 for the fourth time in program history and the first time since 1999 when they host the Oklahoma Sooners in an 8 p.m. contest Friday evening at Ellis Field.
The game will be televised on the SEC Network with Glenn Davis (play-by-play) and Cat Whitehill (color) handling the call. The contest will be available for viewing on SEC Network+. SECNetwork+ provides events to SEC Network subscribers through WatchESPN and the ESPN app on smartphones, computers, tablets and connected devices (Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick, Apple TV, Chromecast, Roku, Xbox 360 and Xbox One). The game will also air on 102.7 The Zone locally and RadioAggieland.com worldwide.
Texas A&M is riding high after starting with four consecutive shutouts, outscoring opponents 12-0. The Maroon & White boast a school-record 19-match unbeaten streak with their last loss coming at Auburn (0-1) on September 15, 2017.
This marks the first time the Aggies have started the season with four consecutive shutouts. Texas A&M is one of 15 teams to make it through the first two weeks of the season without yielding a goal. Of the 15 teams, only A&M and Florida State have played four or more matches with both teams owning 4-0-0 marks.
The Aggies' current shutout string ranks third in school annals. The Maroon & White had a run of seven straight shutouts in 2012 as Jordan Day tied the SEC record for consecutive clean sheets (9/2-23). In 2016, the Aggies posted five straight shutouts (8/28-9/16). Texas A&M has had four other streaks of four shutouts, including a 2014 run that included all three SEC Tournament games and an NCAA Championship first-round match.
The Aggies have dominated the all-time series against Oklahoma, 16-2, although the teams are 2-2 in the last four meetings. Texas A&M owns a 49-12 scoring margin in the 18 matches. The Maroon & White have allowed more than one goal in just two of the games, a 6-2 victory in 2005 and a 3-1 loss in 2009. Nine of the 18 contests have resulted in a Texas A&M shutout.
The Aggies are 9-0-0 against Oklahoma at Ellis Field, outscoring the Sooners 33-6. The last meeting came on October 21, 2011 when Texas A&M posted a 3-0 victory in College Station.
The Sooners are off to a 1-2-1 start on the season. After beginning the year with 2-1 losses to Nebraska and Oklahoma State, Oklahoma rebounded with a 7-1 thumping of Illinois State and a 0-0 draw against Gonzaga. 2017 All-Big 12 First Team midfielder Kaylee Dao leads the team with six points on three goals and Ivanna Rivas has chipped in with two goals. McKinley Crone has played 362 minutes in goal, posting a 1.24 goals-against average with 16 saves.
