COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M volleyball returns to action Friday night at Reed Arena, as the Aggies (10-4, 2-2) get set to host the South Carolina Gamecocks (10-6, 2-2). In addition to the match, Texas A&M will celebrate its annual "Dig Pink" night in support of breast cancer awareness and research. The match is broadcast live on the SEC Network, with first serve set for 8 p.m. Olympic Gold medalist Paul Sunderland and three-time volleyball All-American Missy Whittemore are on the call.
The Aggies' completed their three-game road trip last Sunday, as the team fell to the Missouri Tigers in Columbia. Texas A&M returns to Reed Arena Friday night to defend their undefeated (5-0) home record.
Senior outside hitter Hollann Hans led the Aggies statistically Sunday afternoon, composing her fifth double-double of the season with 19 kills and 10 digs. Hans also recorded five blocks and three service aces in the match.
Junior Setter Camille Conner booked her fourth double-double of the season alongside Hans, collecting 39 assists and 10 digs, as well as 7 kills. Her work Sunday afternoon brings her assist total to 532 on the season.
Freshman Treyaunna Rush logged seven kills to finish with a .400 hitting percentage. Libero Camila Gomez delivered 16 assists and Taylor Voss registered seven digs and an ace.
As a whole, the Aggies were strong defensively, finishing with 12 blocks on the afternoon. Middle blocker Mallory Talbert and Hans both tallied five blocks apiece, while Rush contributed two.
South Carolina comes to Reed Arena after a convincing home sweep of the Mississippi State Bulldogs. The visiting Gamecocks have struggled outside Columbia however, winning only one true road match in four attempts. Interestingly, all three of South Carolina's latest matches have ended in 3-0 decisions, with the Gamecocks going 2-1 over that span.
The Gamecocks are led in points and kills by a pair of Mikaylas. Senior outside hitter Mikayla Shields leads the way for South Carolina in both categories with 227 points and 193 kills so far this season. Her junior counterpart Mikayla Robinson, currently stands in second with 176 points and 142 kills. Both players head into Friday night's match after compiling double-digit kills against Mississippi State.
Texas A&M leads the all-time series with South Carolina 10-3, with 11 of the 13 matches occurring following the Aggies move to the SEC. The Aggies only loss to South Carolina at Reed Arena occurred last season in a five-set thriller.
