LEXINGTON, Ky. – Following a key conference victory last Sunday, Texas A&M volleyball heads to the Bluegrass State of Kentucky on a one-match road trip. The Aggies (14-5, 6-3) visit the SEC-leading No. 15 Kentucky Wildcats (15-5, 8-1) Friday night at Memorial Coliseum. The match is streamed live on SEC Network+ and the ESPN app. First serve is set for 6 p.m. (CT)
The Aggies come into Lexington on a high note after defeating the Georgia Bulldogs in a statement sweep Sunday afternoon. Texas A&M's victory sent shock waves through the NCAA Volleyball RPI rankings, seeing the Aggies rise to 11th in the category. A&M also received votes in the AVCA Coaches Poll for a second straight week.
Texas A&M's victory over Georgia halted the Bulldogs' six-match win streak in SEC play, extending the Aggies' lead in the series history to 18-3 all-time and 11-0 in conference play. The 3-0 decision would also mark the sixth sweep victory for the Aggies in the 2019 season. A combination of excellent work on the net, as well as a trio of offensive performances accentuated the Texas A&M win.
Freshman opposite hitter Treyaunna Rush burst onto the scene at Reed Arena on Sunday, recording her career-high in kills with 10 and logging a .444 hitting percentage. She also contributed five key blocks during her time on the net.
Senior outside hitter Hollann Hans registered double figure kills for the 15th consecutive time, and the 17th time this season. Her 13 kills, eight digs and four service aces highlighted another successful all-around performance from the Corpus Christi native.
Finally, junior setter Camille Conner made a key impact on the Aggie offense in the match, delivering 35 assists. Conner's attacking mindset played a major role for Texas A&M, as she sent down five kills in the sweep.
Defensively, Camila Gomez and Taylor Voss played major roles, cataloging 11 and seven digs, respectively. The blocking game was led by Rush and Makena Patterson, who each had five blocks apiece.
The Wildcats enter Friday evening's action on a four-match win streak, with their last defeat coming at the hands of Georgia in a 3-2 decision on Oct. 11. Their five-set loss to Georgia is the Wildcats' only defeat in SEC action in 2019.
Kentucky is led by junior setter Madison Lilley, senior outside hitter Leah Edmond, and graduate student middle blocker Leah Meyer. Lilley leads the Wildcats in assists with 778, and also garnered SEC Setter of the Week honors for week eight. Edmond serves as the kill specialist for Kentucky, as she leads her team in that statistic with a total of 296. Meyer statistically impacts both sides of the ball, finishing third on her team in kills with 160 and leading the Wildcats in blocks with a total of 83.0, earning SEC Defensive Player of the Week honors for week six.
Texas A&M is 8-11 all-time in the series history with Kentucky, and 3-8 since joining the Southeastern Conference in 2012.
