Texas A&M Sweeps UC Davis to Open NCEA Championships

WACO, Texas – Texas A&M Equestrian swept UC Davis in its three event championship matchups Wednesday to begin the National Collegiate Equestrian Association Championships at the Extraco Events Center.
Texas A&M opened the day with a 3-1 victory in Equitation over Fences. Rebekah Chenelle led off with a 228-212 victory over Lilly Ulrich before Haley Redifer knocked off Sabin Marquardt, 254-216. Caroline Dance secured the win with a 214-197 triumph against Stephanie Don. The Fences group faces South Carolina Friday at 8:35 in the quarterfinals.
Courtney Yohey secured the first point for Texas A&M in Reining as she defeated Charlize Zureak, 205.5-202.5. Kalee McCann scored a 206.5, bettering Haley Frederics' 201. Darby Gardner outscored Olivia Russell, 202.5-0, for the victory. Texas A&M, the defending Reining national champions, squares off against SMU Friday at 8:35 a.m.
In Equitation on the Flat, Dance began the event with a 227-217 victory over Lilly Ulrich. Chenelle defeated Julia Bernard, 182-177, as Adele McKenna clinched the win with a score of 208, topping Sabin Marquardt's 189. Texas A&M advances to the quarterfinals with a matchup against Oklahoma State Friday at 1:56 p.m.
The Aggies received in a first-round bye as the No. 2 seed in Horsemanship and face off against TCU Friday at 3:31 p.m.
Team competition gets underway Thursday as the Aggies take on South Carolina. The meet is scheduled to begin at 8:35 a.m.
