
Volleyball Defeats Dayton 3-2 in Season Opener

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Texas A&M volleyball started their season on a strong note after defeating Dayton in five sets (25-23, 22-25, 25-18, 25-27, 15-13) on Friday at the Cardinal Classic in Louisville, Ky.
Freshman Lauren Davis put the Aggies on the board first, recording her first collegiate solo block. Points traded back and forth before Taylor Voss helped A&M take a two-point lead with an ace. Back-to-back errors by Dayton and a kill by Conner would give the Aggies their largest lead of the set, 20-15, forcing the Flyers to call timeout. Dayton would not let up, as they came back to take a 23-22 lead. Junior setter Camille Conner recorded back-to-back kills to put A&M back on top to get them in a position for set point. Texas A&M secured the first set with a Lauren Davis kill, 25-23.
Dayton took a 3-0 lead early in the second set. With eight ties and two lead changes, A&M and Dayton continued to battle. An ace by Hans gave the Aggies a 17-16 lead, but a 3-0 run later in the set would put Dayton ahead 23-20. A kill by London Austin-Roark and a block assist by Lauren Davis and Mallory Talbert helped the Aggies pull within one. The Flyers were able to get back-to-back points to win set two, 25-22.
Senior outside hitter Hollann Hans started to heat up in third set, helping the Aggies jump out to an 11-8 advantage. A&M continued to build on their lead after going a 4-0 run to go ahead 21-16 after London Austin-Roark's ace. The Flyers battled, but a trio of kills by the Aggies would secure the third set, 25-18.
There were 10 ties and six lead changes in set four, as both teams fought to win. A&M was able to take a 10-6 lead, but the Flyers went on a 7-2 scoring run, knotting the set at 15. In the remaining points of the set, freshman Lauren Davis helped the Aggies get in position for set point twice, but Dayton ended it with a 3-0 run, winning 27-25.
Freshman Treyaunna Rush came off the bench in the fifth set and instantly gave the Aggies momentum with a solo block. The set was tied at six until the Aggies pulled away on a 5-0 run and would hold their lead throughout the rest of the match. The Flyers came within two, but a service error would give the Aggies match point. A Dayton block and kill had the Flyers within one at A&M's match point, but Mallory Talbert slammed down a kill to finalize the match, 15-13.

- Senior Hollann Hans led the Aggies with 12 kills, 13 digs and three service aces.
- In her freshman debut, Lauren Davis finished in double figures with 12 kills and three blocks.
- Camille Conner and Mallory Talbert each had nine kills, while London Austin-Roark had 10. Conner also had a game-high 36 assists.
- In her first match in the maroon and white, Camila Gomez recorded 19 digs. Allison Fields was also solid on the back row to finish with 12 digs.
- Sophomore Taylor Voss was tremendous for the Aggies on the service line, earning a career-high four service aces.
