Plowboys Clinch Maroon & White World Series with 8-4 Win

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Plowboys rode a five-run second inning to an 8-4 victory over the Farmers to clinch the Maroon & White World Series Thursday evening on Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.
The Plowboys plated five in the second with the help of some free bags and a hit. Jordan Thompson and Austin Bost were key in the win. Thompson was 2-for-4 with one run, and Bost was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Mikey Hoehner added a hit, one run, two RBI, and one walk, while Trevor Werner added a majestic solo blast in the fifth. Five different of the Plowboys tallied a RBI, while six drew a walk.
On the mound for the Plowboys, Wyatt Tucker earned the win in relief, pitching 2.1 scoreless innings, scattering two hits and one walk while strikeout out two. In the start, Chandler Jozwiak tossed 3.2 innings yielding four runs, three earned, while fanning four. Trevor Werner finished things out for the Plowboys with a perfect frame in the seventh with two strikeouts.
Offensively for the Farmers, Ryan Targac, Bryan Sturges, Ty Coleman were on fire. Ryan Targac hit a bomb for the second consecutive day, while going 2-for-3 with two RBI, a double and one run. Sturges was 2-for-4 with one moonshot in the first, while Coleman added two hits, one run, and one RBI.
The Farmers threw six pitchers at the Plowboys. Will Johnston suffered the loss after yielding five runs, two earned, on six walks while fanning a pair. Nathan Dettmer came in to relief, and threw 2.0 frames allowing two runs on three hits while striking out two. Alex Magers, Chris Farrell, Walker Zander and Joseph Menefee closed out the remainder of the game. Zander and Menefee each hurled shutout a frame.
The Plowboys clinched the series 2-0 over the Farmers, and win the Omaha Cup. Texas A&M closes out the World Series with game three slated for Friday at 3 p.m.
