No. 9 Texas A&M Topples Texas Tech in Dallas
Feb 02, 2020 | Men's Tennis
DALLAS – The No. 9 Texas A&M men's tennis team defeated Texas Tech, 6-1, Sunday at the SMU Tennis Complex to improve to 4-0 on the season while the Red Raiders fell to 3-2.
"I thought we responded well to adversity today," Texas A&M men's tennis head coach Steve Denton said. "Tech really tested us and it was not looking good for the Aggies for a portion of singles. I thought the match turned in our favor when Guido battled through a first set tiebreaker and we began to turn the momentum in the matches after losing the first set."
The Aggies captured the doubles point for the fourth straight match. A&M's All-American duo from a season ago, Carlos Aguilar and Barnaby Smith, played together for the first time this spring and did not miss a beat as the pair claimed a 6-0 win over Tech's Bjorn Thomson and Parker Wynn. A&M clinched the point as Valentin Vacherot and Noah Schachter defeated Isaac Arevalo and Reed Collier 6-4 on court two.
No. 3 Vacherot doubled the A&M lead with win on court three 6-2, 6-3 over No. 114 Collier. Stefan Storch pushed the Aggie advantage to 3-0 with a 6-4, 6-3 triumph over Arevalo on court five.
No. 105 Schachter clinched the win for the Aggies with a 6-7, 6-1, 6-1 on court four over Francisco Vittar. No. 10 Habib and Guido Marson added wins for the Aggies to make the final score 6-1 after Tech earned a three set win on court one.
The Aggies remain away from home as they head to Columbus, Ohio for a top-10 showdown with No. 6 Ohio State on Feb. 11 at 5 p.m.
