Sep 24, 2020 | Men's Golf
COLUMBUS, Georgia – Texas A&M senior Walker Lee was named to the preseason watch list for Fred Haskins Award, which is given annually to the nation's outstanding men's golfer by the Fred Haskins Commission.
Lee, from Houston, Texas, was a model of consistency with seven top 25 finishes in eight outings in 2019-20 on his way to third-team PING All-America and second-team All-Southeastern Conference honors. He posted a scoring average of 71.54, which was second-best on the team, while carding six rounds of 70 or better. Lee was the individual champion at the Cabo Collegiate after closing with a course record 64 in the final round. For the win in Cabo, Lee was 8-under par with rounds of 71-70-64. An excellent student, Lee was named to the GCAA All-America Scholar Team and earned a spot on the SEC Academic Honor Roll.
Celebrating its 50th year, the Fred Haskins Award has been given to players who have captured 31 major championships and more than 400 professional tournaments around the world. Past recipients include Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Ben Crenshaw, and Justin Thomas. Sahith Theegala (Pepperdine) won the 50th Haskins Award in 2020. The Fred Haskins Award is the oldest individual college golf award and the only award to be voted on by players, coaches, golf SID's, and select golf media.
