Dramatic Comeback Bid Falls Short Against No. 4 SMU

WACO, Texas – The fifth-seeded Texas A&M equestrian team mounted a second-half comeback against No. 4 SMU in the first round of action at the NCEA Championships, but ultimately fell via the tiebreaker, 7-7 (3698.5-3693.5), Thursday at the Extraco Events Center.
The Aggies (4-6) trailed 6-3, but scored four of the last five points in Fences and Reining to push the meet to a tie. Kaitlyn Lovingfoss began the rally with a 235-211 victory over Alex Pielet in Fences, before Marissa Harrell recorded a 212, bettering Taylor Zimmerman's 207 in Reining.
Grace Boston evened the meet in Fences with a 235-232 triumph over Devin Seek prior to Haley Redifer giving the Maroon & White the lead with a 254-237 win against Taylor Madden. SMU (8-1) secured the last point in Reining to put the tiebreaker in effect.
Devon Thomas added a point for the Aggies to complete the 4-0 Fences sweep, defeating Olivia Woodson, 229-219.
In Horsemanship, Ella Petak knocked off Mallory Vroegh, 215-211.5, and Hayley Riddle toppled Megan Waldron, 228.5-228. Rhian Murphy earned a tie in Flat against Miranda Seade with a 207.
