
Aggies Set to Begin Competition at SMU Classic

DALLAS, Texas – The Texas A&M men's swimming & diving team begins its 2022-23 season at the SMU Classic. The competition is a two-day, six-team event beginning Friday, Oct. 7 at 6 p.m. inside the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center and Barr-McMillion Natatorium.
The event welcomes top competition from around the country. Joining A&M at the meet will be Missouri, Michigan, Texas and Louisville.
The SMU Classic features eight swimmers and one diver from each competing university. Events are contested in two heats with one swimmer from each school in each heat. Divers will compete on the 1- and 3-meter.
Hitting the road for the Aggies will be Kaloyan Bratanov, Baylor Nelson, Anze Fers Erzen, Andres Puente, Thomas Shomper, Maximiliano Vega, Connor Foote, Ethan Gogulski, and diver Rhett Hensley.
The Maroon & White are coming off of the program's fifth straight top-20 finish at NCAA Championships after sending 14 Aggies, including six individual swimmers and four divers to the meet. Puente used a personal best time of 1:52.20 to advance to the 200 breast final and earn All-America honors. Multiple returning Aggies medaled at SEC Championships last season, including Bratanov, Puente and Fers Erzen, who claimed bronze medals. Gogulski added a pair of silver medals for the Aggies, when he lowered his personal bests in the 100 back (45.42) and 200 back (1:39.58).
Newcomers, Nelson, Vega and Foote will make their collegiate debuts in Dallas this weekend.
