Texas A&M Quotes
Head Coach Pat Henry
on Deborah Acquah…
"Deborah [Acquah] had a great day. It's not necessarily how far you jump, it's about the competition. I think she's lost three championships all within about three-quarters of an inch, that's tough. She's a great contributor to our team and it will be fun to see what she can do in the triple jump tomorrow."
on the finals qualifiers…
"Emmanuel [Bamidele] qualifying for the finals is a huge accomplishment. He didn't necessarily look great doing it, but he beat a lot of great people to get in there. Brandon [Miller] looked like himself. He's in control of what's going on and he's a great competitor. Charokee [Young] went out and really didn't do what I asked her to do, but she's strong enough to make up for mistakes and ends up being the fastest qualifier on the day. She looked good and I'm extremely proud of her today. Laila [Owens] didn't necessarily run a fast time and she will have to get a little more out of herself if she's going to be in that top mix. The opportunity is there, she's in the mix in the finals so we'll see what she can do tomorrow."
on Kaylah Robinson…
"She had a tremendous run and she just keeps getting better every time she's on the track. She is getting significantly better each time out and she's doing a tremendous job. She ends up being ninth, the last qualifier out so that shows you the level of this competition."
Bronze long jump winner Deborah Acquah
on her performance…
"I felt really good. The main goal was to come in here and accomplish what I've been working for. Throughout the competition I wasn't getting a rhythm. Everybody was jumping far so I wanted to also have a good jump. It was about finding the right rhythm and not being scared to jump. Overall, It wasn't a bad competition and I tried my best."
