
Track & Field Splits Travel Between Penn Relays and Michael Johnson Invitational

COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M track & field splits travel between the Penn Relays held in Philadelphia at Franklin Field and the Michael Johnson Invitational in Waco at the Clyde Hart Track & Field Stadium, April 23-25.
Entering the fifth week of the outdoor season, the Maroon & White both sit comfortably in the top 10 of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association rankings, as the men lead the way in third and the women hold seventh.
Last Time Out
The Aggies had a record-breaking weekend in Gainesville at the Tom Jones Memorial, as the group downed two school records, recorded a top five all-time NCAA mark, won three events and tacked on 10 performances that landed in the A&M all-time list.
Kickstarting the weekend was Ja'Qualon Scott in the 400m hurdles, as the senior downed his own program best time after crossing the line in 48.22. The time secured the win among collegiate athletes in the event and secured the top spot in the country and second in the world this year. Henry Zimmerman added the second school record of the weekend, also topping his previous best which stood at the top of the Aggie ranks after a toss of 69.04m/226-6. His throw jumped him up to the top 12 nationally in the event and secured the No. 4 slot in the SEC.
The other two wins on the weekend earned a pair of conference honors, as Zaza Nnamdi and Peter Narumbe were named SEC Men's Field Athlete of the Week and Men's Freshman of the Week, respectively. Nnamdi won the men's javelin with a throw of 84.68m/277-10 that claimed to the No. 4 spot in NCAA history and landed him seventh in African history. Narumbe's time of 1:45.05 in the 800m ranks second in the nation and placed him fifth in the Aggie record book among the all-time greats to don the Maroon & White.
Top-Ranked Aggies
The Aggie men carry eight top ten marks, led by Scott in the 400m hurdles (48.22) and Nnamdi in the javelin (84.68m/277-10) who both rank first nationally. Narumbe sits at No. 2 in the 800m (1:45.05), while the 4x400m groups rank both third (3:01.56) and fourth (3:01.62). Scott adds a No. 5 mark in the 110m hurdles (13.36), while Lawson Jacobs in the 400m (45.12) and Etoro Bassey in the high jump (2.19m/7-2.5) mutually rank eighth.
The Aggie women also hold eight top ten marks in the country. Jaiya Covington tops the group in the 100m hurdles (12.79), as she ranks second nationally. Camryn Dickson holds two No. 5 marks in the 100m (11.02) and the 200m (22.51), while Katelyn Fairchild lands at No. 6 in the javelin (56.59m/185-8), Anya Jackson sits at No. 7 in the 200m (22.56). The women's 4x100m relay (43.03) and Abigail Martin in the discus (58.88m/193-2) rank eighth, and rounding out the final ranking is Debora Cherono in the 3,000m steeplechase (9:56.45) who holds 10th.
