Nov 02, 2023 | Volleyball
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas A&M volleyball team returns to Reed Arena to face Alabama Friday evening with first serve set for 6:30 p.m.
The Aggies dropped a road match versus then-No. 12 Tennessee last time out. This was the 11th conference match of the season for A&M, it now enters the final month of the regular season tied for sixth in the league with a 6-5 record.
Alabama makes the trip to Aggieland on an 11-match skid, as it remains winless in the conference this season. The Crimson Tide's most recent loss was at the hands of No. 24 Auburn, where they dropped a 3-1 decision at home.
A&M boasts a strong advantage in the all-time series between the programs (13-5). The majority of the matchups have occurred since the Maroon & White joined the SEC (11-5). Home court advantage rings true for the Aggies as they have won eight of the 10 matches in Aggieland; however, in the team's last face off at Reed last season the Crimson Tide stole a 3-1 victory.
Alabama's offense will have to work around A&M's impressive defense. The Crimson Tide rank 13th in the league in kills per set, while the Maroon & White pace the conference in total blocks and blocks per set.
Bianna Muoneke continued her hot streak offensively, as she recorded her third-straight game with 10+ kills, logging 10 on the night. This is also Muoneke's 12th match surpassing 10+ kills during her debut season in Aggieland.
Margot Manning also showed out for the freshman class, logging three service aces in the match. Manning has now logged 3+ aces in seven matches this season and ranks second in the conference in aces per set (0.47).
Middle Blockers Ifenna Cos-Okpalla and Morgan Perkins had efficient nights in Knoxville, with Cos-Okpalla logging six kills hitting .364, while Perkins recorded four kills at .444 percent. The duo accounts for 197 of the Aggies kills this season, hitting at a staggering .355 percent combined.
