Aggies Sweep in Doubles at the ITA Texas Regional

WACO – The Texas A&M men's tennis team swept in doubles play at the ITA Texas Regional at the Hurd Tennis Center on Saturday.
The No. 1 seed duo of Togan Tokac and Giulio Perego had a clean victory over Rafael Candelas Ruiz/Alexandre Chauvel Gobin of Incarnate Word, 8-0. Luke Casper and Tiago Pires advanced after a win over Guy Dagan/Haruki Omori-Cowie of Lamar, 8-4. The pair of Matthis Ross and Grant Lothringer advanced with a win over Daniel Linkuns-Morozovs/Ethan Scribner of Abilene Christian, 8-5. The No. 7 seed duo JC Roddick and Ritesh Patil clinched the win over Andres Medus/Meethre Barot of UTA, 8-5.
In singles play, Roddick advanced after a win over Nicolas Trebuchet of A&M-Corpus Christi, 6-0, 6-2. Pires clinched a three-set victory over Sebastian Abboud from Texas Tech, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. No. 8 seed Tokac claimed the victory over Evan Burnett of Texas, 6-4, 6-4. Perego also advanced due to an injury withdrawal.
Casper came up short against Piotr Pawlak of Texas Tech, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3. Patil fell to the No. 5 seed Devin Badenhorst from Baylor, 6-3, 6-7 (8-10), 6-3.
Singles play continued with the round of 16 on Saturday evening. Roddick advanced to the quarterfinals after taking down Tiago Torres of UTSA, 6-3, 6-3. No. 6 seed Perego earned a spot in the quarterfinals after he claimed the win against Luc Koenig of Baylor, 7-5, 7-5.
Pires dropped a hard-fought, 6-7 (4), 6-4, 6-3, to No. 5 seed Devin Badenhorst of Baylor. Tokac went down against Marko Miladinovic of Baylor, 6-3, 6-4.
In the consolation bracket, Ross advanced after a victory over Santiago Navarro of Rice, 7-6 (4), 6-2. Lothringer fell to Filip Apltauer of TCU, 6-4, 6-2. Junior Ethan Silva fought hard but came up short against Maks Silagy from SMU, 6-4, 4-6, 10-6.
Ross took home the win against Imran Daniel Abdul Hazil of Baylor, 7-5, 7-5 to advance to the consolation quarterfinals.
Play continues tomorrow, Oct. 20, with the singles quarterfinals and doubles round of 16. The consolation quarterfinals will also take place on Sunday.
