Nov 02, 2024 | Volleyball
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M volleyball team closes its weekend versus Mississippi State Sunday in Reed Arena with first serve set for 2 p.m.
Coming off their sixth conference win of the season, the Aggies welcome Mississippi State to Aggieland for their 10th league fixture of the season. Both programs enter the match on winning streak, as A&M has claimed its last three, while the Bulldogs won their last two.
Playing in front of the 12th Man, the Maroon & White have excelled with an 8-2 record. The visitors are 500 on the road, holding a 3-3 record overall and are 1-2 during SEC play away from Starkville. The Bulldogs have a prolific offense, ranking fifth in the league in both assists per set (12.41) and kills per set (13.17), however A&M hangs its hat on slowing down teams' efficiency as they lead the SEC in opponent hitting percentage (.177).
This will be the 21st meeting between the teams, with the Aggies dominating the previous 20 matchups holding a 14-6 record. Last season, A&M secured two sweeps versus the Bulldogs, one at home and one on the road. When playing in Reed Arena, the Maroon & White are 9-2 versus Mississippi State.
Last time out, the Maroon & White put out a balanced display in a 3-1 victory over Alabama. After dropping the opening set, the Aggies claimed the next three and logged 56 kills, 61 digs and 12 blocks as a group in the match.
Logan Lednicky surpassed 300 kills on the season following her 14 kill outing versus the Crimson Tide. The junior became the 20th member of A&M's 1,000 kill club versus Arkansas earlier this season, and has since climbed four spots to rank 16th for career kills in program history.
