No. 14 Men’s Tennis Hosts SMU in Home Opener
Feb 01, 2024 | Men's Tennis
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The No. 14 Texas A&M men's tennis team takes on the SMU Mustangs in its home opener, Friday, Feb. 2 at the Mitchell Tennis Center. First serve between the Aggies and Mustangs is set for 12 p.m.
"We have had a good rivalry the last couple of years against SMU," head coach Steve Denton said. "They have been very solid in doubles, so we will need to be ready to play well from the start. I know our guys are happy to be at home for a change and playing on our courts where we have some familiarity. In opening the season at home, we will need to be ready to compete against an NCAA tournament team."
The Maroon & White look to extend their winning streak to five as they have started the season 4-0. All four victories have come on the road, including a comeback victory at then-No. 19 Georgia, which helped the Aggies punch their ticket to the 2024 ITA National Indoor Championship.
The last matchup between the two programs took place at SMU where the Maroon & White won 4-1 last season. SMU is 5-2 on the season, with its last win coming against Texas Tech.
