Mar 21, 2024 | Men's Tennis
LEXINGTON – The No. 10 Texas A&M men's tennis team travels to Lexington to face the No. 5 Kentucky Wildcats for the No. 1 spot in the SEC on Friday, March 22, at the Boone Tennis Complex with first serve set for 4 p.m.
"Kentucky is at the top of the SEC and has played very well this season," head coach Steve Denton said. "They are very tough to beat at home. Having said that, I like the way we have been trending as of late and we are looking forward to the challenge this Friday."
The Aggies (16-4, 5-1 SEC) are coming off a victory over Georgia. The Maroon & White took down the Bulldogs, 5-2, to extend their conference win streak to five and defeated Georgia for the second time this season. The match was highlighted by No. 116 Giulio Perego who started a spark for A&M with an upset win against No. 100 Miguel Perez Pena. No. 64 JC Roddick also earned his seventh ranked win of the season over Georgia's No. 82 Thomas Paulsell.
The team is led by back-to-back SEC Player of the Week JC Roddick who is on a six-match winning streak and has seven ranked victories under his belt. Additionally, Tiago Pires is the reigning league freshman of the week and has a 6-3 record on court 5.
The Maroon & White are seeking to get a win against No. 5 Kentucky (14-2, 5-0 SEC) after falling to the Wildcats, 4-3, during the 2022-23 league slate. A victory would give the Aggies the top spot in the SEC standings, as Kentucky is currently undefeated in league play.
