
Aggies Put on Show at Outdoor Home Opener

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M track & field team claimed 16 event wins, four all-time marks and 17 person-best showings in its return to E.B. Cushing Stadium Saturday for the Texas A&M Invitational.
The Aggies got their day started in the field, winning eight events. Sam Hankins set the tone and continued his strong start to the outdoor season in the men's javelin, as he threw an event-winning 76.16m/249-10 for his second-straight title to start the year. Abigail Martin debuted at the No. 3 spot in the women's discus on the Texas A&M all-time performers list with an event-winning toss of 54.17m/177-8. Carlie Weiser logged a win in the women's shotput with a throw of 15.51m/50-10.75 landing at No. 5 all-time and placed second in the discus event with another history-book performance, ranking No. 12 with a mark of 49.03m/160-10. Ethan Sanders added two more wins for the Maroon & White in the throwing events, with personal-best performances in the discus (53.28m/174-10) and shot put (16.57m/54-4.5).
A&M added another three wins in the field, as Jack Mann III and Heather Abadie swept the men's and women's pole vault events for the second time this outdoor season. Mann cleared 5.16m/16-11, while Abadie soared over 4.07m/13-4.25. Nissi Kabongo secured the final win in the field, jumping a season's-best 1.75m/5-8.75.
Moving to the track, the Maroon & White saw similar success picking up eight wins. The men's 4x100m quartet of Devante Mount, Pierre Goree, Omarion Ferguson and Connor Schulman got the Aggies rolling, as they crossed the line in 39.82. The A&M women secured a relay win of their own in the 4x400m, as Kabongo, Jermaisha Arnold, Camryn Dickson and Joniar Thomas crossed the line in 3:37.14 to ensure their win.
The Aggies went on to sweep the 100m, 400m and short hurdle events. Dickson won the women's 100m right at the line in 11.31, finishing six thousandths of a second in front of the field. Goree won the second heat on the men's side in 10.43 which held through the final heat to secure his win. Ja'Qualon Scott picked up his first outdoor win of the season in the men's 110m hurdles, crossing the line in 13.64 which was good for No. 10 all-time. Jaiya Covington claimed her second-straight 100m hurdle win to start the outdoor season with a time of 13.43. Finally, in the 400m events, Jevon O'Bryant and Arnold logged times of 46.33 and 52.06, respectively.

The Aggies split up and head to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, for the LSU Invitational and Palo Alto, California, for the Stanford Invitational, with both being held March 29-30.
