No. 2 Aggies Drop Series at Ole Miss

OXFORD – The No. 2 Texas A&M baseball team (41-10, 16-10) dropped its second consecutive series Saturday afternoon, falling to Ole Miss (27-23, 11-15) 10-2 from Swayze Field.
The Rebels jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the second courtesy of a two-run homer, RBI single and a two-run double.
In the third, Jace LaViolette cut into the deficit with a solo blast to left, marking his team-leading 27th homer of the season. The long ball also marked the 48th of his career, which stands alone as the third most in program history.
Ole Miss got the run back in the bottom half with a sacrifice fly to push its lead to 6-1. In the fourth, the Rebels tacked on three more to their lead, 9-1, courtesy of an RBI single and a two-run double.
Ole Miss pushed across its final run of the day in the eighth on an RBI double down the left field line. On the play, left fielder Caden Sorrell saved a run with a strong throw to catcher Jackson Appel, who applied the tag at the plate.
In the ninth, Appel brought home the final run of the afternoon with a sacrifice fly to center. Braden Montgomery scored on the play after drawing a walk, taking second and advancing to third on a passed ball.
Starter Justin Lamkin suffered the loss after allowing five runs over 1.2 innings of work.
