May 25, 2024 | Men's Golf
Senior fired a 1-under 71 at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa North Course.
CARLSBAD, Calif. – Playing in his final tournament for the Aggies, senior Daniel Rodrigues jumped 26 spots in Saturday's second round at the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship to move into a tie for 15th place.
Rodrigues fired a 1-under 71 at the par-72, 7,538-yard Omni La Costa Resort & Spa North Course to end the day at 1-over 145. Stanford's Karl Vilips leads the field at 7-under 137. He owns a five-stroke gap over the second place tandem of Virginia's George Duangmanee (-2) and Ohio State's Adam Wallin (-2).
The Aggies dropped seven spots as a team after Saturday's round of 19-over-307. Tied for 22nd place at 29-over 605 through two rounds, the Maroon & White enter Sunday's action seven strokes below the cutoff for the top 15 which continue playing the final round of stroke play Monday. Stanford currently holds the last spot at 22-over 598.
After Monday's round, the top eight teams move to the match-play bracket to decide the national champion. Virginia leads the tournament at 1-over 577. Arizona, Florida State and Ohio State possess the final spots for the quarterfinal matches at 12-over 588.
Sunday's action starts at 2:55 p.m. from hole No. 1 with Texas A&M paired with New Mexico and SMU.

TEXAS A&M QUOTES
Head Coach Brian Kortan
On the performance by Daniel Rodrigues...
"Roddy is such a fighter. What he does so well is he doesn't care what it looks like – he'll find a way to shoot the best score he can every day. That's what he did today. The golf course wasn't giving up good scores and his afternoon round of 1-under par was definitely one of the best round out there."
On the challenge the team faces getting to the top 15 cutoff...
"It was right there for us today finishing up the round. We didn't start the best. The wind was blowing a little bit when we started and we didn't handle it really well. But we steadied the ship and played the hard holes really well the second half of the round. We put ourselves in position to be in the top 15 going into tomorrow with the chance to concentrate on the next thing (getting in the top 8 for match play). But we just finished poorly and you can't do that at a national championship. You have to play 18 holes. We didn't finish the round off well and now we're behind the 8-ball a little bit. We're going to have to play some really good golf tomorrow and hopefully get into that top 15 and then fight our tail of to get into the eight.
