EUGENE – Texas A&M track & field all-time great's Maggie Malone Hardin and Brandon Miller punched their tickets to Paris on the final day of the U.S. Olympic Team Trials Sunday at Hayward Field.
The Aggies wrapped up the Olympic trials punching five tickets to Paris, with Fred Kerley (100m), Jacob Wooten (pole vault), Malone (javelin) and Miller (800m) qualifying for Team USA, while Lamara Distin ensured her spot for Jamaica in the high jump.
Malone set the tone on the final day, dominating the javelin from the first attempt to qualify for her third games. She recorded a throw of 64.58m/211-10 on her opener to win the event. The mark also broke her own meet record set back at the Tokyo trials.
Miller took the momentum to the track, as he finished third in the men's 800m to qualify for his first Olympics. He was a model of consistency throughout the rounds, and a time of 1:43.97 in the final booked his ticket to Paris.
Shamier Little ran in an extremely competitive women's 400m hurdles final, where she crossed the line fourth in 52.98. All of the top-four athletes ran sub-53 seconds, and they are four of only six women in the world this year to run that time.
James Smith concluded his championships with a strong fifth-place result in the men's 400m hurdles in 49.18.
Jamaican Trials
Charokee Young concluded her trials with a seventh-place finish in the women's 400m finals, crossing the line in 52.64, while Kimar Farquharson wrapped up his trials in the 4x400m relay.
