Aggies Break 4x100m School Record, Women Finish 18th on Final Day of NCAA Championships

EUGENE – The Texas A&M women's track & field team broke the 4x100m school record and placed 18th at the NCAA Outdoor Championships Saturday at Hayward Field.
The Maroon & White concluded their championships in 18th with 17 points. The group accumulated five First Team All-America honors and eight Second Team accolades.
Taking the track by storm in the opening final of the night was the women's 4x100m quartet of Anya Jackson, Camryn Dickson, Aysha Shaheed and Jasmine Montgomery, as they broke the school record in the event to take fourth. The team crossed the line in 42.34 which broke the previous program best which stood for 17 years (42.36) and lands the Aggies as the No. 9 team in NCAA history. The results secured the group First Team All-America status and added five points to the team total.
Dickson was A&M's top scorer on the day, claiming her highest individual finish at the national championships after placing third in the 200m. The senior clocked 22.18 to capture six points for the program, earing First Team honors which marks her third accolade of the meet and 15th of her career.
Jaiya Covington concluded her decorated career in Aggieland, capturing First Team status in the 100m hurdles after taking sixth. She finished in 12.96 and ensured back-to-back years scoring in the event.
Abigail Martin was the first Aggie to score on the day, taking eighth in the discus. The junior recorded a crucial toss of 56.15m/184-2 in the third round to move herself up to the point-scoring positions. Her performance earned her First Team honors which marks her second in the event during her career.
Machaeda Linton wrapped up the field events at the championships for the Maroon & White, placing 12th in the triple jump. She leapt her best mark in the second round of 13.24m/43-5.25.
