Jan 22, 2025 | Softball
OKLAHOMA CITY – Texas A&M softball's Mac Barbara, Emiley Kennedy and Koko Wooley have been named to the Top 53 Watch List for the 2025 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year, the organization announced Wednesday.
Kennedy, who was named a Top 26 Finalist last season, finished the 2024 campaign ranked third in the nation in shutouts (10) and complete games (24), while she was top 20 in the country in wins (24), strikeouts (200) and innings pitched (202.2). A native of The Woodlands, Texas, Kennedy was a NFCA Second Team All-American after appearing in 43 games, while finishing with a 24-11 record and a 1.93 ERA. Lefty also earned All-SEC First Team honors after leading the league with 100.1 innings pitched and ranked second with nine wins, while appearing in every game in seven-of-eight SEC series.
Barbara and Wooley make their first USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Watch List appearances. Wooley returns after leading the Aggies a season ago in batting average (.382), hits (60), multi-hit games (21) and stolen bases (19). The La Porte, Texas, native, played a huge impact in Texas A&M's postseason run leading the Maroon & White with a .467 batting average, 14 hits and six runs. Barbara, a transfer from San Diego State, led the Mountain West in on-base percentage (.508), while her 14 home runs were fifth-most in the league in 2024. The grad student owns a career .368 batting average and 1.200 OPS with 179 hits, including 45 home runs, 31 doubles and 104 walks, while driving in 156 RBI and adding 100 runs.
The Top 25 Finalists for the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award will be announced on April 30. While an athlete does not have to be on the Watch List to be considered for the Top 25, the eventual USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year will come from the Top 25 Finalists. The Top 10 Finalists will be revealed May 14, and the final three will be released May 19. The 2025 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year will be announced prior to the NCAA Women's College World Series (WCWS).
