No. 13 Aggies Defeat No. 23 Harvard, Secure Spot at ITA Indoors

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The No. 13 Texas A&M men's tennis team defeated No. 23 Harvard, 4-3, on its home court to secure the team's spot at the ITA Indoor Nationals at the Murr Center on Sunday.
Standout freshman Theo Papamalamis punched the Aggies' ticket to nationals after a three-set thriller on court 1. After splitting the first two sets with Danny Milavsky, Papamalamis came back with a vengeance in the third with a 6-0 sweep to send the Aggies to the ITA National Indoor Championships for the second straight year.
Texas A&M (3-0) had a slow start in doubles action against Harvard (2-2), losing two doubles matches consecutively to put the Aggies down 0-1.
The tide turned in singles as sophomore Tiago Pires made quick work to put the Aggies back in the running after securing a two-set sweep on court 4 against Valdemar Pape, 6-3, 6-1. Harvard took the advantage back with a win on court 2.
Continuing the back-and-forth action between the teams was Togan Tokac, with a victory against Masato Perera on court 5, 7-5, 6-2. On court 6, Giulio Perego fought hard in three sets, coming up short as Harvard took back the lead.
Luke Casper changed the match for the Aggies as he rebounded from a first-set setback to roll to a 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 win against Rohan Murali on court 3 and put the Aggies one point away from the win.
Papamalamis secures his third victory of the season on court 1 and his second match clinch. The Aggies now join 15 other teams to compete at the ITA Team Indoor Nationals in Dallas and Waco from Feb. 14-18.
