Swimming & Diving Battles TCU in Home Opener
Oct 16, 2025 | Swimming and Diving
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M swimming & diving program hosts the TCU Horned Frogs in its home opener on Friday at the Rec Center Natatorium. Diving begins at 12:45 p.m. while the swimming competition starts at 2 p.m.
The Aggies' annual matchup with the Horned Frogs comes with a twist this season - a rock-paper-scissor battle determines if the men's or women's teams are competing first and then the races will be contested in the order they are drawn out of a hat.
The meet begins with the 200-yard medley relay, followed by a to-be-determined order of the 1,000 freestyle, 200 free, 100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke, 200 butterfly and 50 free heading to the break and then 100 free, 200 back, 200 breast, 100 fly and 200 IM after the intermission. The teams close out the meet with the 500 free and 200 free relay.
"We're excited about getting to compete in our home pool in front of the 12th Man, and the format of the meet should add a bit of fun," Texas A&M director of swimming & diving Blaire Anderson said. "TCU is a competitive program year-in and year-out, and our team will be seeing a lot of familiar faces on the Horned Frogs roster, which always creates a great college dual meet environment. I was encouraged by the way we raced at the USC Invitational last weekend and I thought we had some solid performances against some of the nation's top swimmers."
The Aggies opened the 2025-26 season last weekend with a strong showing at the USC Invitational in Los Angeles, highlighted by multiple NCAA qualifying marks and numerous top-five finishes. Junior transfer Ava Whitaker led the Aggie women with NCAA cuts in both the 100 butterfly (52.39) and 200 butterfly (1:56.09), earning a pair of runner-up finishes, while junior Roberto Bonilla Flores met the NCAA standard in the men's 200 breaststroke (1:54.82) to take second.
Fifth-year senior Munzy Kabbara added two second-place efforts in the 200 IM (1:45.45) and 400 IM (3:46.75), and freshman diver Emilio Trevino impressed with third-place finishes on both the 1-meter (307.75) and 3-meter (367.35) boards. Other top performances included Kaitlyn Owens (third, 100 back; fifth, 50 free), Giulia Goerigk (top five in three events), Rachel Love (second, 1,650 free) and Batuhan Filiz (third, 1,650 free).
