Aggies in Third Place after Day One of Steelwood Collegiate
Oct 25, 2025 | Men's Golf
LOXLEY, Ala. – The No. 24 Texas A&M men's golf team is in third place after playing 40-plus holes Saturday at the Steelwood Collegiate Invitational.
With inclement weather forecasted for Sunday, the teams continued action after completing the scheduled two rounds at Steelwood Country Club. Golfers from the 14 teams finished between one and six holes in the third round, including all the Aggies playing between four and six.
Texas A&M stands in third place at 9-under, behind just West Virginia (-12) and Rutgers (-11).
The Aggies led the field after two rounds and would claim the title if teams are unable to complete the third round Sunday. The Maroon & White opened with a 1-under 287 in the first loop and posted the top score of the tournament in the second circuit at 9-under 279.
Ol' Sarge's charges have two players in the top 10 with Wheaton Ennis and Aaron Pounds tied for seventh place at -4. Pounds opened with a 2-under 70 followed by a 3-under 69. Ennis was even the first loop followed by a 4-under 68. Pounds and Ennis were tied for fourth and sixth, respectively, after two completed rounds.
Jaime Montojo is tied for 20th place at 1-under. The senior Spaniard was tied for 13th through two rounds. Kris Kuvaas fired two even 72s to sit in 23rd place after two trips around Steelwood.

TEXAS A&M QUOTES
Head Coach Brian Kortan
On a long day at the course, playing 40 holes...
"It's a long time to be out there. Mentally, it's a long day. You really don't do that very often. Two rounds is already a long day, but knowing you're going to go right into the third round and play an extra five or six holes, is a super long day. But it's alright. It's party of this sport. Learning to deal with whatever is thrown at you is a part of any sport and the guys did a really nice job today."
On how they'll handle tomorrow with the start up in the air and the probability of stop-and-go throughout the day...
"We play an outdoor sport. There's a lot of unknown about what tomorrow might bring with the weather, but we'll be prepared. That's all you can do is be prepared and go into it knowing it could be a choppy day. We'll still have to perform to our standard."
On Aaron (Pounds) and Wheaton (Ennis) leading the charge...
"Admittedly they would tell you they could have done better. They were a little sloppy at times and gave some shots up they didn't need to, so that was a little frustrating to them. But they're mature guys. They're resilient and they put themselves in a good position for down the stretch. Those are two guys we're going to lean on and that's a role they've embraced."
