
No. 9 Texas A&M Sweeps Alabama for Seventh-Straight Win

TUSCALOOSA – The No. 9 Texas A&M volleyball team swept Alabama for its seventh-straight win Sunday afternoon at Foster Auditorium, 3-0 (25-19, 25-9, 25-18).
The Aggies (12-2, 4-0 SEC) undefeated run continued following the teams seventh sweep of the season, as they improved to 4-0 in league play. The Maroon & White dominated the three-set contest, outscoring the Crimson Tide (8-6, 0-4 SEC) 75-46.
The hosts started the match as the aggressor, opening up a five-point lead as head coach Jamie Morrison called his first timeout of the fixture (8-3). Texas A&M flipped the momentum back to its side of the court behind a 12-5 run to be up at the midway point (15-13). The Maroon & White held their rhythm, building on the advantage through a pair of Alabama timeouts (22-16). The Aggies wouldn't be denied, as a successful challenge from coach Morrison secured the opening frame, 25-19.
Texas A&M kept its foot on the gas at the start of the second, racing out to a five-point advantage as Ifenna Cos-Okpalla's third ace of the game forced a Crimson Tide timeout (9-4). The onslaught continued behind Cos-Okpalla at the service line, as she spearheaded the team to 12-straight points (16-4). The Maroon & White's offense didn't falter, closing the set on a 9-5 streak courtesy of seven kills, one block and an Alabama error (25-9) to double their lead, 2-0.
The teams battled back-and-forth to open the third, finding themselves tied on six occasions to 10-10. Texas A&M was the team to make the move, forging separation late into the frame prompting another break from the hosts (19-15). Ensuring the win for the Aggies was Emily Hellmuth, as she struck the final two points of the match with her 11th and 12th kill to take the set (25-18) and match, 3-0.
