Howell Named Lombardi Award Finalist
Nov 18, 2025 | Football
HOUSTON – Texas A&M defensive end Cashius Howell was named a finalist for the Lombardi Award, the award's committee announced Tuesday. The honor is given annually to the nation's most outstanding lineman.
Howell has emerged as one of the nation's most dominant pass rushers in 2025, leading the country with 1.15 sacks per game, while his 11.5 sacks rank second nationally. His 11.5 sacks are the most by an Aggie in a season since Myles Garrett matched the mark in 2014. The redshirt senior has recorded multiple sacks in three games, including a career-high 3.0 sacks against Utah State. Howell ranks fourth in the SEC and No. 15 nationally with 12.5 tackles for loss, while leading the nation with six pass breakups among defensive ends.
The Kansas City, Missouri, native has been named SEC Defensive Line Player of the Week four times this season, setting a Texas A&M program record and becoming just the sixth SEC player to receive the award four times since it began in 2004.
Now in its 52nd year, the Lombardi Award™ has been presented annually in Houston, Texas, since its inception in 1970. This year's award ceremony will take place on December 10, 2025, with proceeds from gala sponsorships and table and ticket sales benefiting cancer research.
The Lombardi Award™ was established in memory of Coach Vince Lombardi by the Rotary Club of Houston. The award represents more than the distinction involved; it honors players who best exemplify Lombardi's enduring principles of leadership, courage, and discipline. The 2025 finalists have set themselves apart through exceptional ability in their respective positions, perseverance, and impact on their teams, continuing a legacy that inspires future generations of athletes.
