NEW ORLEANS – Texas A&M cross country coach Wendel McRaven was named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association South Central Region Women's Coach of the Year, the organization announced Tuesday.
Coach McRaven secured his second women's coach of the year honor in the past three seasons, following the program's second ever NCAA South Central Regional title and first in 25 years. His squad had two top-10 finishers and five in the top-25 at the meet which earned them USTFCCCA South Central All-Region honors. McRaven's group entered the national rankings at No. 26 prior to the NCAA Championships and ended the year with a 31st-place finish at the meet.
The women's program also had a regular season to remember, winning a pair of team titles at the John McKenzie Invitational and Texas A&M Invitational as well as finishing third and fourth, respectively, at the Arturo Barrios Invitational and Paul Short Run.
Individually, McRaven guided College Station native, Megan Roberts, to a solo crown at the John McKenzie Invitational as she won the 5k in a time of 17:53.32.
