Pires, Frusina Advance to ITA Central Sectionals Quarterfinals

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Texas A&M's Tiago Pires and Alex Frusina advanced to the singles quarterfinals at the ITA Central Sectionals at Michigan's Varsity Tennis Center Friday.
Opening his first set down 5-3 against TCU's Albert Pedrico Kravtsov, junior Pires came back to win four straight games to take the first set 7-5. The Frenchman's second set was a back-and-forth tussle with the Horned Frog, until Pires was able to pull away in the tiebreaker, 7-6 (4). He will face Sebastian Dominko of Notre Dame in the quarterfinals.
Sophomore Frusina faced Michigan's Bjorn Swenson in the round of 16. After splitting the first two sets, the Conroe, Texas, native dominated in the third to secure his spot in the quarterfinals, 7-5, 2-6, 6-2. Frusina is set to battle Jack Anthrop of Ohio State in the next round.
