No. 6 Texas A&M Overwhelms No. 8 Florida State in Twin Bill Sweep
Feb 22, 2025 | Softball
TALLAHASSEE – The No. 6 Texas A&M softball team swept No. 8 Florida State in Saturday's doubleheader winning game one in extra innings, 6-3, in comeback fashion, followed by game two, 11-4, at the JoAnne Graf Classic. It marked the first time in program history to sweep a top 10 team in a doubleheader on the road.
Florida State (11-3) drew first blood plating three runs on three hits in the opening frame. Texas A&M (14-1) held off FSU as Aggie starter Emiley Kennedy escaped a bases-loaded jam in the second inning and left two Seminoles stranded in scoring position to end the third.
Allie Enright chipped into the deficit with a solo blast to left field as the Aggies trailed, 3-1, after four. Ol' Sarge's charges evened the score in the fifth as Mac Barbara dunked a two-out double to the bottom of the left field fence scoring a pair of Aggies.
After two scoreless innings to send the game into extra innings, the Aggies took their first lead after Kennedy Powell singled to right center with two outs to score Gracyn Coleman. Mac Barbara increased the lead with another two-out single scoring a pair of runs to take a 6-3 lead into the bottom half.
Grace Sparks earned her third win of the season after entering the circle in the fourth to toss 5.0 innings, while yielding only three hits, one walk and striking out three.
In game two, the Aggies overwhelmed the Seminoles with a six-run second inning and followed with a run in the third to make it 7-0. The Maroon & White entered run-rule territory by adding three runs on four hits in the top of the fifth. Florida State answered back in the bottom half with four runs, before Mya Perez hit a solo home run in the seventh to finish off the Seminoles, 11-4.
Sidne Peters moved to 4-0 on the season pitching 4.0 innings and striking out three, while allowing five hits, three walks and two runs.
