Chapman Wins Pentathlon Title on Opening Day of USATF Indoor Championships

NEW YORK – Texas A&M's Timara Chapman won the women's pentathlon title on the opening day of the USA Track & Field Indoor Championships Saturday at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.
Kicking off the indoor championships was Chapman, as she put on a dominant performance from start to finish in the pentathlon to win the event with 4,555 points. The Raleigh, North Carolina, native opened her day in the 60m hurdles, placing second with a time of 8.29. She followed that up with second in the high jump (1.78m/5-10), third in the shot put (13.18m/43-3), first in the long jump (6.33m/20-9.25) and finally fifth in the 800m (2:18.38).
Jacob Wooten also landed himself on the podium on day one, as he finished second in the men's pole vault. The Aggie Olympian cleared 5.70m/18-10.25 to secure the silver medal in the event.
Brandon Miller opened his championship campaign on the front foot, as he won the third heat of the men's 800m prelims in a season-best time of 1:45.58 to punch his ticket to tomorrow's final.
Connor Schulman reached the men's 60m hurdles final and crossed the line in 7.76 to place eighth in the event.
Jevon O'Bryant finished one spot shy of the men's 400m final, as he crossed the line in 46.05.
