
Cherono Claims Steeplechase Title on Final Day of Raleigh Relays

RALEIGH – Texas A&M track & field's Debora Cherono claimed the 3,000m steeplechase title on the final day of the Raleigh Relays Friday at Paul Derr Track & Field facility.
Cherono highlighted the final day of action in Raleigh after securing her first win in the steeplechase of the season and third of her career. The sophomore crossed the line in 9:56.45, to ensure her hard-fought victory beating the runner-up finisher by under a second. Her time shoots her to the top of the national rankings in the event this year. Additional Aggie finishers included Emma Little in 34th (10:41.07) and Kennady Fontenot in 40th (10:48.23).
Megan Roberts had a career day in the 10,000m, running a personal-best time of 32:57.74. Her mark was over 30 seconds faster than her previous best, moved up her from No. 3 to No. 2 on A&M's all-time performers list and was good for 13th in the invitational section of the event.
The 1,500m duo of Elise Smoot and Sophia Bendet opened the day. Smoot finished the race with a mark of 4:22.48 for 36th, while Bendet clocked in at 4:28.77 for 87th.

The Aggies continue their road stint, as they head to Baton Rouge for the Battle on the Bayou, April 3-4.
