MEET PREVIEW: SEC Indoor Championships

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M track & field team opens its postseason campaign at home, as it hosts the SEC Indoor Championships Feb. 27-March 1 for the first time at the R.A. 'Murray' Fasken '38 Indoor Track & Field facility.
The Aggies gear up for the conference championships, entering the meet as the No. 4 ranked team on the men's side nationally and No. 12 on the women's. The team hosts its first SEC meet since 2022 and first in their new facility.
Regular-Season Wrap Up
A&M concluded an impressive regular-season campaign this past weekend, as the group broke nine school records across eight meets, with six coming on the men's side and three on the women's.
Eight of the all-time marks broken during the season came on the track and on the oval, including both 60m hurdles records by Ja'Qualon Scott on the men's side and Jaiya Covington on the women's, Auhmad Robinson in the 300m, Kennedy Wade in the 600y, Luca Santorum in the 1,000m, both Cooper Cawthra and Debora Cherono in the men's and women's mile, respectively, and the men's DMR was downed by the quartet of Kimar Farquharson, Santorum, Cawthra and Cutler Zamzow. The final record came in the field, as Aleksandr Solovev set a new program best in the pole vault.
The Aggies also tallied 48 wins as a group throughout season, with 31 of those coming at the trio of home meets in front of the 12th Man. Along with the nine school records, the Maroon & White also notched 57 marks in the A&M all-time performers list and added 126 personal-best performances.
Top-Ranked Aggies
Entering the championships, the Maroon & White boast a number of athletes who rank in the top-five nationally in their respective events.
For the men, they hold a pair of national-leading marks, first with Solovev in the pole vault with a clearance of 5.80m/19-0.25 and secondly the men's 4x400m relay group consisting of Robinson, Hossam Eddine Hatib, Antonie Nortje and Zamzow with a time of 3:02.21. Robinson also boasts the No. 3 time in the NCAA in the 400m with a mark of 45.51, while Scott holds fifth in the 60m hurdles with a time of 7.55.
On the women's side, Winny Bii sits at the top of the national ranks in the triple jump with a leap of 14.01m/45-11.75. The team also holds a pair of fifth-place ranks, with Covington in the 60m hurdles in 8.01 and Jermaisha Arnold in the 400m in 51.86.
Last Year's Championships
At the 2024 championships, A&M recorded a third-place result on the men's side and finished fourth on the women's. The team brought an 11-medal haul back to Aggieland which included four gold, two silver and five bronze.
Of the medal-winning group, the Maroon & White return both the women's pole vault champion Heather Abadie and men's 800m champion Sam Whitmarsh, silver medalists Scott (60m hurdles, 4x400m), Robinson (4x400m), Farquharson (4x400m) and bronze medalists Arnold (4x400m), Camryn Dickson (4x400m), Jack Mann III (pole vault) and Carter Bajoit (high jump).
The Field
The Maroon & White hosts the first 16 team conference championships since the expansion of the SEC, which includes Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, LSU, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Missouri, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Vanderbilt.
All 16 programs have a women's team entered into the meet, while there will 15 on the men's side. Of those women's teams, nine are ranked in the top-25 nationally and eight land in the rankings for the men.
