BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The No. 2 Texas A&M softball team blasted three home runs to overpower Louisiana, 11-2, in a five-inning run-rule victory Tuesday night at Davis Diamond.
Texas A&M (40-6) jumped on the board in the opening inning plating three runs on two hits. After a lead off ground out, Amari Harper and Mya Perez followed with walks before Mac Barbara singled through the right side to score Harper. Allie Enright extended the lead with a 2-RBI two-out double to left field to score Perez and Barbara for an early 3-0 lead.
Louisiana (23-23) stranded a pair of Aggies in scoring position in the second frame before doinking a dinger off the foul pole to cut into the deficit, 3-1, in the top of the third. Barbara answered with a leadoff home run to left field, while Koko Wooley followed with a single and a stolen base. After an Aggie foul out, KK dement launched a two-run home run off the top of the video board to extend the advantage to 6-1 after the third frame.
The Ragin' Cajuns added another with a two-out RBI double in the top of the fourth, before the Maroon & White exploded with a five-run bottom half to enter run-rule territory. Powell singled on a bunt to start things off before Harper followed with a single to left field. The pair advanced to scoring position after a ground out and Barbara was intentionally walked to load the bases. Wooley earned an RBI after she was walked on four straight pitches to make it 7-2, before Enright blasted her first grand slam of the season as the Aggies took a commanding lead to the fifth, 11-2.
Starter Grace Sparks moved to 8-1 on the season after going 3.0 innings , while yielding only one run on two hits and striking out one. Lessentine entered in the fourth frame striking out one batter and allowing a run before Emiley Kennedy slammed the door shut in the fifth striking out a batter.
Following the game, Kennedy was presented with an Athletes Unlimited Softball League (AUSL) Golden Ticket from Texas A&M Hall of Famer Amanda Scarborough. The Golden Ticket is presented to players who will be selected in the upcoming AUSL draft on May 3.
