Kennedy Spins One-Hit Shutout at No. 2 Tennessee in Series Opening Win, 1-0
May 01, 2025 | Softball
KNOXVILLE – Texas A&M All-American Emiley Kennedy tossed a one-hit shutout in a 1-0 series opening thriller at No. 2 Tennessee, Thursday night at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium.
Koko Wooley knocked a two-out RBI double to left center in the top of the seventh to break the ice and give Texas A&M (42-8, 15-6 SEC) a 1-0 lead. In the bottom half, All-American Emiley Kennedy hit the lead off batter, before forcing a ground out and striking out the final two Volunteers to seal victory.
Kennedy punched out seven of the first 15 batters she faced before the Volunteers found the hit column in the fourth inning. The left-handed ace moved to 18-4 on the season and finished the night striking out 10 batters, while she stranded eight Volunteers on base.
Texas A&M threatened in the opening inning when Kennedy Powell led off with a single and advanced to third on Mac Barbara's two-out infield single. Tennessee (39-12, 14-8 SEC) spoiled the opportunity forcing a ground out to the ensuing batter leaving Aggies stranded on the corners. The Volunteers were gifted consecutive two-out walks before Kennedy struck out the final batter looking to end the bottom half.
After a pair of quick innings, Allie Enright was gifted a two-out walk and Kramer Eschete was hit-by-pitch before a strikeout ended the top of the fourth. Tennessee registered its first hit with a single in the fourth, before the ensuing batter was walked. With two on base and one out, the Amari Harper fielded a hard-hit ground ball and flipped it to Wooley before she returned it back to Harper for a 3-6-3 double play to end the Volunteer threat.
In the top of the fifth, Mya Perez knocked a two-out double to center field that missed a home run by just a couple inches. Tennessee forced a ground out to the ensuing batter to end the threat. The Aggie defense continued to hold their ground after Kennedy walked the lead off in the bottom of the fifth and the Maroon & White turned it second double play of the night on a bunt attempt for a 2-3-6 double play.
Tennessee led off the sixth and seventh innings with free passes, while Kennedy continued to dominate the zone leaving two runners on base in the sixth and one on in the seventh.
