BIRMINGHAM – Texas A&M's Jake Maggert was honored with a spot on the SEC Men's Golf Community Service Team announced with the league's annual awards.
The Aggie sophomore is involved in The Maggert golf tournament, benefitting YES to YOUTH – Montgomery Youth Services. The tournament raises money for an organization whose mission is 'to strengthen the emotional and mental health development of youth and families by providing crisis intervention, counseling and suicide prevention services. YES to YOUTH provides a safe and nurturing home where abused, battered, sex-trafficked, homeless, and at-risk youth begin healing from the past and become empowered for the future.'
Maggert is an active participant in the volunteering circuit as part of his duties with the Texas A&M Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. He helped SAAC, the largest student-athlete volunteer run canned food drive in the nation. The collections helped give back and provide a positive impact in the Brazos Valley. Maggert Is also involved with REVved Up to Read, a Texas A&M University-affiliated volunteer program focusing on literacy.
His SAAC involvement also includes The Selfless Service community engagement program which encourages, streamlines and tracks the community involvement of all student-athletes. The Selfless Service Ambassador Program encourages members from SAAC to serve as key community service liaisons within their teams.
In his second season in Aggieland, Maggert has competed in four events totaling 10 rounds. His best effort came at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic, posting a 23rd place finish, including a season-best 69 in the opening round. He won his lone match play round of the season, topping Stanford's Brian Ma, 2&1, as the Aggies prevailed over the Cardinal, 5-4.
